One of the finest examples of bridge architecture located right here in Austin Texas is the Pennybacker Bridge or 360 Bridge. It was opened in 1982 and in 1984 the bridge won 1st place in the Federal Administration’s Excellence in Highway Design competition. In 1992 the bridge was selected by the Austin chapter of the Consulting Engineers Council of Texas. The bridge was picked as the most innovative example of Austin architecture and to this day is a icon of of the city.
On both sides of the 360 Highway there are hiking trails to the bluffs overlooking the bridge, its a great place to enjoy the outdoors and take in the beautiful view of Lake Austin and the surrounding Hill Country of Texas.
